Mission Statement

 Hi

The main point of this blog is to make a record of my involvement in Victorian Science Fiction (VSF)  gaming.  The primary, but not exclusive focus is on 28mm gaming, inspired, but not restricted to the ideas presented by Frank Chadwick in his Space 1889 game. I am not one who likes to be constrained by a strict adherence to canon, my 'universe' diverges from the 1889 game universe in a number of ways. These differences will become apparent as I post to this blog.

However I do not want to only cover pure VSF as defined by Space 1889. I will also cover off on some Victorian horror games, and Victorian exploration games. I do not anticipate doing any 'traditional' colonial games. Non VSF (historical) colonial games never really appealed to me. The closest I will come to that genre is Congo, which offers some variety.

Beyond 28mm miniatures, I also have a somewhat large collection of Dystopian Wars miniatures, 1/1200 scale. It looks like a life time project for me, and I have not recorded too much to date, but I hope to change that, soon.

In 15mm/18mm these if All Quiet on the Martian Front, a game based on the idea of a second Martian invasion of Earth. Just a little beyond Victoria's reign it fits with the fantastic aspects of VSF gaming, with steam tanks and heat rays.

To me the key aspect of VSF gaming is all about silly fun. The vehicles that one typically uses should tend towards whimsy. The very setting is fantastical, with flying contraptions, tunneling machines,  ether space ships that travel between the planets and landships that rarely resemble any real world tanks. In Dystopian Wars gigantic vehicles, and outrageous technology runs rampant crating a chaotic, fun game.

Finally, I hope to finally work on my own VSF rules. I wrote them quite some time ago, incorporating, combining honing existing rules from other games (taking what I liked) and adding new rules of my own. Hopefully they will see the light of day on this blog.

PS, please comment, on anything you see on this blog, or any of my blogs. communication inspires me, and I appreciate any comments. All too often I wonder if the microphone is on...😏
