So, after more than a year without posting anything I have now suddenly made 3 posts in one day!
This time up are some flyers that I am working on. These items are mostly built, though in some cases I have left them unfinished to make it easier to prime and paint. The ship pictured above does not need paint as it is a pre-coloured model. (but it will need some weathering) It is a small skiff that was clearly modeled after the Star Wars sand skiff, just a lot smaller. I actually have 4 of the Kenner sand skiff toys waiting to be converted to Martian and American air ships.
The following ships all come from Blotz.
So I picked up this rule set recently and I am itching to give it a try. It is by Wiley games, makers of the Fist Full of Lead (FFoL)series of games that have been around for quite some time. What this book is, is that rule system but with stats and ideas specifically for VSF. It is divided into three sections, skirmish level, big battles and sky ship combat. Each section can be played on their own but they are compatible with each other for the full effect. Apparently FFoL is a fast play card driven system that delivers a quick fun game. While I have many of it's iterations I have yet to give the rules a try as I have been too focused on my Pulp Alley campaigns.
However I have found a new gaming partner who is interested in giving VSF a try, so now I have an incentive to haul out my stuff for a game. Fingers crossed that I will have an AAR to post soon...
So, a couple of years back I painted up these figures for the Analogue Painting Challenge. While I posted them up for that event I somehow failed to add them to the main page of this blog. I did add them to the Prussian page, but who visits those pages?😉 I only realized this now because I have recently started to work on some more VSF stuff, specifically some flyers. The odd thing is that I did post up images of other figures that were painted around the same time.
Classic Parroom Station figures finally done. These represent airship marines in service to one of the city states (at least in my universe) They are delicate looking figures compared to RAFM and some details that are hard to get to but they do look good to me!
These bring me to 73, 1889 style figures done for this year.
Nothing about these scream out VSF, but not everything needs to be funky! These are regular cavalry sent to strengthen the French holdings on Mars.
Just a quick post to say that I have finally got around to updating the pages for the various factions. This means that I am going through my store of pictures and adding gathering them under each factions page. Some of these pictures were posted on my main blog this just brings them together on tis site.
I have not added every possible picture and if anyone wants to see more pictures of a given item please let me know and I will post up more pics.
Pages can be accessed from the column on the right, or from the section just under the banner (above)
So, just working on these over the last day or so. The top figures are by Hinterland (OOP?) while the bottom, figures are by North Star. To be fair, I had started the women many months ago, and they have just been languishing on my painting table. They are nice figures, but with a tendency to have really unfortunate mold lines that defy my ability to remove.
The North Star sailors are nice simple figures along the lines of Artizan figures, effective looking figures without excessive, and time consuming detail. So far I have applied the base colours on all of them, now I just need to do some layer work, and some washes.
So, I had cannibalized these parts from a GW temple of some sort, deciding to make a set of ruins out of some of them, while keeping one set more or less intact. The picture above show the first three stages of recovery.
The image on the left is the dull uninspired original version. The next shows the impact of a fresh, redder swath of colour across the exposed barren surface. The last shows the temple bits highlighted to make them stand out better. After this highlighting, I will add some red/yellow flock to punch up the vegetation, and will no doubt add in the odd shrub that I have converted to a Martian red from the terrestrial green.
Almost like the holy grail, to me, I have been hoping to find one of these in a yard sale, or geek store. On a whim, I decided to search online again, finding some on Ebay. Shipping to Canada would be costly, and the asking price after conversion meant they would run $100 or more.
Then I noticed the Amazon add in the corner, I had low expectations, but decided to check them out, what could be the harm. Well amazingly they had some, and with free shipping it came to $45.00 more or less. Some how I did not realize that these had been re-released last year, more fool me!
I was surprised by this rule set. I had anticipated, given it's size, a more detailed complex game. What I found was a straightforward fun game.
